New environmental standard: PAS is certified with ISO 14001 for the first time

The environmental management system of PAS in Bergisch Gladbach was certified according to the globally recognised environmental management standard ISO 14001 for the first time in December 2022.

We spent ten months working towards the certificate ISO 14001, the environmental standard of the International Organisation for Standardisation. It specifies requirements for an environmental management system with which a company can achieve and improve its environmental goals. The auditors examined all processes of our newly introduced system. For example, ecological aspects in the procurement of products and services.

Flight compensation and, for the first time, sustainable aviation fuels

We are aware that emissions and resource consumption in the transport sector are an important indicator for the environmental balance. We want to reduce these step by step. Firstly, by communicating our environmental requirements to suppliers and service providers and regularly monitoring their compliance. We give preference to companies that are also certified according to ISO14001. On the other hand, we inform our customers about the environmental balance of the products and suggest possible alternatives. Wherever possible, we compensate for or reduce CO₂ emissions. For example, by using Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), if available at the departure airport. Such sustainable aviation fuels are not based on fossil fuels, but from biomass or fatty plants. We are the first German broker to deal intensively with the topic of SAF and offer customers the opportunity to have their aircraft fueled with SAF. Compared to fossil paraffin, SAF saves up to one third of CO₂ emissions. Currently, SAF is still mixed with conventional paraffin.

Environmentally friendly office

In order to be certified, everyday office life must also be designed sustainably. We limit our paper consumption as much as possible. If something does need to be copied or printed, we use 100 percent recycled paper from Europe. For environmentally friendly advertising materials and printed materials, we use a service provider that is also certified according to ISO14001. In the office and for trade fair stands (especially IBTM and IMEX), we use 100 per cent green electricity. In other everyday office activities, too, each member of the PAS team contributes to making our company even more sustainable and environmentally friendly. An environmental management officer at PAS supports us in this. We take compliance with our goals and the internal and external audits very seriously.

Environmental standard complements existing quality standard

In addition to the new ISO 14001 standard, we have already been certified with our quality management system according to ISO 9001 for five years. In December, this was confirmed again. Our quality management is based on a system programmed especially for us. It includes all stages of the flight journey: Contact history, quote generation, booking, flight briefing, supplier evaluation and customer feedback. Since mid-2022, all offers automatically receive two prices: with and without CO₂ compensation. It is important to us to make every customer aware of the cost-effective offsetting of the flight. We also point out the possibility of refueling with Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). We make our customers aware of any solution that helps to reduce resource consumption and CO_2- emissions.
